Wilderness Ruck - 12 Miler - Putnam Valley, New York
ABOUT THIS EVENT

12 Miler - WILDERNESS RUCK - First of its kind

  • Ruck it solo or with friends
  • Fun ruck it or race for time - your call
  • This is our kind of fun and we have cold victory beers at the finish line

GORUCK is The Rucking Company and we have executed over 10,000 rucking events since 2010, empowering a global community of ruckers.

HOW IT WORKS

This event will be located on Durland Scout Reservation. You will be on trails the entire time with check points along the trail to check in. This is a great way to get outside doing activity, solo or with a team. This part of New York is absolutely beautiful and you will be able to jump in Crystal Lake on the reservation to cool off during the ruck. When you successfully complete the Wilderness Ruck, your GORUCK Cadre will hand you a cold beer and a patch that will never be for sale.

WHAT TO BRING - REQUIRED

  • A rucksack (Rucker recommended) - must have reflectivity
  • Ruck Plate (or equivalent) in your rucksack - to your weight requirement
    • 20 lb. Ruck Plate - MEN
    • 10 lb. Ruck Plate - WOMEN
  • Water/Hydration. 3L required. Hydration Bladder and a Nalgene bottle highly recommended.
  • Any medication you might need
  • Photo ID
  • Smartphone + spare battery. This will be how you navigate and contact the Cadre if you get lost.
  • Smiles

RECOMMENDED (BUT NOT REQUIRED) ITEMS

  • Extra layers of clothing. Think: merino wool socks and a shell. Pay close attention to the weather — if it’s gonna be cold, make sure you have a windbreaker
  • Dry Bag (or equivalent, such as a contractor bag) for keeping everything in your ruck dry.
  • Supportive footwear. GORUCK recommended because it’s the best for people who carry weight and live on their feet.
  • Food, snacks, electrolytes — you are of course able to stop anywhere along your route to resupply.

TIME STANDARD

You have 5 hours to successfully complete your 12 Miler Wilderness Ruck and earn the patch.

CADRE

CADRE NORWICH

Fearing he would "miss the war," Norwich dropped out of the Nation's oldest private military college, joined the Army, and was awarded the Green Beret. Known on his teams as either Norwich or Boy Scout, the tenants of each are captured in ink on his back. Now separated from Group and uniformed service, Norwich is meshing his military and first responder experience to assist in the development and delivery of instructor-led training courses, classes, and workshops relevant to counterterrorism, preparedness, and resiliency to various public and private sector audiences throughout the great Garden State. Norwich is happily married to a remarkable woman and enjoys raising a daughter with a balance of glitter and grit.
